Don’t miss this rollicking send-up of Victorian romanticism. Courted by all the young ladies, the seemingly dashing and brooding poet, Reginald Bunthorne only has eyes for Patience, a simple milkmaid, who, in turn, only has eyes for the poet Archibald Grosvenor. Oh, and the army shows up to marry all the single women, but finds its prospects dashed! The lessons of the pain and passion of true love are shared with all. Will everyone end up with a suitable partner?

June 17 | Letters Home
A Celebration of the Early Canadian Settlers

Robertson-Wesley United Church, 10209 123 Street NW
7:30 PM

Celebrating Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation, we present a unique concert extolling the experience of both the immigrant and indigenous Canadian communities. The concert includes the Alberta premier of Ken Nichols’ and Mark Morris’ “Letters Home”, a semi-staged song-cycle featuring letters from early pioneer settlers in Southern Alberta (written for a tenor, soprano, pianist and string quartet) alongside Sir Ernest MacMillan’s “Three Songs from the West Coast”, a song cycle based on indigenous texts from the Tsimshian People group from around the Skeena and Nass Rivers. The text of these songs were translated into English by Duncan Campbell Scott.

This magical Czech story of the forest tells the tale of a young Vixen fox cub who, after escaping capture, find adventure and love in the forest. The cycle of life is celebrated by both the animals of the forest and the people who inhabit it. Janacek presents some of his most experimental music while blending the magic of the animal world with the folly of village in this light opera of folklore.
